I'm Aaron Van Gorp, your local, friendly, average handyman.

I started Average Handyman LLC in January of 2021. I've worked in a lot of different fields over the years, from electrician to zookeeper. I don't know it all, but I love learning, and solving problems, which is why I decided to try my hand at being handy.

I was born and raised in Pella, Iowa. Went to college in Colorado Springs, CO, and received an associate's degree in Zookeeping Technology. After working a few years as a zookeeper, I fell in love with a fellow zookeeper, and I quickly realized that even though it was my dream job, working at a zoo didn't pay well enough to support a family. Since then I've tried to find a new dream job (that actually paid the bills), and have worked as an ISP broadband specialist, pest control technician, grain bin builder, duct installer, concrete finisher, general laborer, siding and gutter installer, and most recently, electrician. The one thing I learned through all of these careers, is that I love helping people.

Why "Average" Handyman?

The first reason I chose to call my company Average Handyman is because my initials are AVG (Aaron Van Gorp), which is a common abbreviation for average.

The second reason is because I've always found it funny when some companies make claims of being the best/fastest/tallest/cheapest/etc, then under deliver on those claims (this is by no means a hard rule, just something I've noticed). I won't ever claim to be the best, or the only person that can help you. I will promise to be honest, upfront, and transparent in what I do.
